I am so excited! Tomorrow, I will be unveiling the book cover for my third novel, “Down North”!
If you didn’t know, I don’t really outsource my book covers. My sister — who graduated with a film degree, and has a real eye for photography and design — helped me create the cover for “Blood in the Water,” as well as “Down North.” And as for my romcom “It Had to Be You,” well, I drew that one! Despite my artistic skills.
Putting the cover on a book is the last step to really bring it all together. Like wrapping a silky bow around the whole thing. We have all been told since childhood not to judge a book by its cover. Lets face it, that’s bull when we are talking about literal book covers! When I am browsing at the library, I pick up a book based on the title on the spine and its font. And I admit that the cover on the front is a huge part of what gets me to crack it open. So, its safe to say that I agonize over the cover of my novels. However, I think it is getting easier and becoming a quicker process.
Self-publishing means a lot of trial and error as you go. The growth I have seen coming from myself, is one of my favorite parts. I have admitted to mistakes I made with my first book (*cough cough* no marketing pre-publishing). What is life without learning from these boo boo’s?
I appreciate those who have been along for the ride with me, through all the bumps on the road. Tune in tomorrow (3.1.26) on Instagram and Tiktok for the cover reveal of “Down North”! Coming this spring!
